Cardio
If you want to shed fat, you need to do cardio. I believe that the typical cardio most people do may not be as effective as it can be. Doing the treadmill for 30 minutes or any other extended period of time is good, but I believe that there is a better way to do cardio. When doing cardio, you should use intervals. Whether you are on the elliptical or on the treadmill or going for a run, try using intervals. This goes back to my point in previous posts. If you keep the body guessing, you will see better results. Interval training does just that, it keeps the body guessing. When on the treadmill for example, let’s say you are running at a 7.0 pace for 30 minutes. That is a good pace for that amount of time, but during the course of the workout, your body will adjust to it and adapt. I would recommend running on the treadmill at a speed of 8.0 for 2 minutes and then bringing it back down to 6.0 or 7.0 for a minute and then bring it back up to 8.0 for 2 minutes. Challenge yourself. Go hard for a short period of time, take a short break, and go hard again. This will keep your body guessing and burn fat. Interval training can be used when running as well. Simply run harder for a period of time, take a break, and do it again. Run fast, slow it down a bit, and run fast again. My personal favorite is the jump rope. The jump rope is a great workout for interval training. Jump rope for a minute as fast as you can, take a break for 30 seconds, and then do it again! Interval training will make your cardio workouts a little more intense.
